Five Organ Transplant

Adonis Ortiz, a three year old boy from Tampa, Florida was born with an extremely rare defect, causing some of his organs to form outside of his body.  After his family received a call from Jackson Memorial Hospital, Adonis and his family were rushed to Miami so the procedure could be preformed.  Doctors told the family there was only a 50/50 chance that the boy would survive.  Miraculously, the five organ transplant was a success.  The baby received a liver, pancreas, stomach, small, and large intestines.  He is still in Miami recovering from surgery, but is in stable condition.

Stick it to the poor

Apparently, our governments is coming up with ideas to ruin the lives of millions of people across our country.  Congress will basically start kicking people out of their homes early next year.  The idea is, if you can't pay for your house without government assistance, you don't deserve to live in one.  All in all, about 3 million disabled senior citizens and families will be affected by this.  Our government is also making budget cuts for the SNAP benefits, which means people who lean on the help of the government for food stamps will be deprived of this necessity.

Shark Attack in Maui

While fishing from his kayak, the unnamed victim was attacked by the shark.  He and his companion, also unnamed, were fishing for bait fish with artificial lures when the shark bit the foot of the man as he dangled it in the water.  After falling into the water, the shark came up and bit again on the thigh of the same leg.  Said companion then tried to stem the severe bleeding by tying a tourniquet to the man's leg.  A rescue boat was called quickly and arrived within a few minutes.  Once back to shore, the victim was rushed to a hospital, but it is believed that he died on the rescue boat on the way to shore.  This is the 13th shark attack in Hawaii this year, and the 8th in Maui alone.

Decked out Wheelchair

A 9 year old boy from Cleveland, Ohio, Stephen Gibson, was the proud owner of a completely personalized neon green wheelchair.  Fully equipped with light-up wheels, Gibson's wheelchair was his pride and joy.  On Sunday, Stephen and his family realized their garage had been broken into and the chair had been stolen.  Stephen, who suffers from cerebral palsy and scoliosis was described to be "ecstatic" when his wheelchair was returned to a local police department, despite being slightly broken.  A local medical equipment supplier, Ivacare, has offered to replace Stephen's old chair with two brand new ones! Another neon green chair with light-up wheels, and the second is a sporty chair so Stephen can use it to play basketball.

Opium sky rockets in Afghanistan

After a record opium harvest in May, many farmers are continuing to plant and harvest poppies.  Khan Bacha believes that poppies are the only reasonable crops he will be able to sell in order to properly provide for his family and pay his bills.  "People are poor, families are big. Wheat is no good," Bacha said. "The only thing that is good is poppies. They are gold."  When last harvested in May, Afghanistan produced 6,000 tons of opium, which is 49 percent more than the combination of all other countries in the world.

Legalization on the Rise?

There is talk about a vast majority of states adopting the idea of the legalizing of marijuana.  States such as Colorado and Washington have already voted for the recreational use of the drug, for adults 21 and older.  Other states such as Michigan and Maine, have begun talk about legalizing marijuana within certain city limits.  Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper said in a statement, "We are grateful voters approved funding that will allow for a strong regulatory environment, just like liquor is regulated. We will do everything in our power to make sure kids don't smoke pot and that we don't have people driving who are high. This ballot measure gives Colorado the ability to regulate marijuana properly."

Antibodies vs. HIV

New research has been done to help control the human immunodeficiency virus.  The antibodies come from a rare group of people who are able to hold off the HIV infection.  Studies done on monkeys show that the affects from the antibodies are working progressively better than former strains.  A mixed injection of various antibodies decreased blood concentrations of the virus in the monkeys.  Louis Picker of Oregon Health & Science University in Beaverton and Steven Deeks of the University of California, San Francisco say that the findings are very encouraging.

New Jersey Governor drops challenge to same-sex marriage

Governor Chris Christie has long been apposed to the marriage of gay and lesbian couples.  As of 12:01 Monday morning, the Garden State has legalized same-sex marriage.  Still, Christie is openly against this newly passed law, but will no longer challenge the thought due to citizens votes and court rulings.  In a debate against state Sen. Barbara Buono, Christie stated that he would love his children the same if they came out to be gay but would still be against gay marriage.  After voters and the New Jersey Supreme Court expressed their constitutional opinions on the same-sex marriage dispute, Governor Christie had no choice but to obey the ruling.

Manu's Contract Stolen by Bird?

The San Antonio Spurs are one of the leagues classiest and culture rich organizations.  Despite today's advancements in technology, the Spurs still decide to hand-deliver paper copies of player contracts.  Free agent Manu Ginobli was in his Argentinian home, when a representative from San Antonio arrived fully equipped with contract, pen and or pencil. After signing yet another contract, Manu relaxed in his Buenos Aires home.  On his way to the airport, the representative was viciously attacked by an unidentified bird.  While dealing with such a distraction, the backpack containing a cellphone, laptop, passport, and Manu's contract.  Upon return, the Spurs sent another representative down to South America to finish the deal once and for all.  The location of the original contract is still unknown and may or may not turn up on eBay.

Why the Lions Suck

The city of Detroit, MI has been known for it's tough streets, automotive success, and it's most recent dismay of public appeal, being home to the Detroit Lions.  Being the NFL's team with the least amount of sportsmanship (all thanks to Ndamukong Suh), the Lions have proved once just why that is.  On Sunday, the Green Bay Packers played against the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field.  The University of Wisconsin-Madison's nationally famous marching band prepared to perform a plethora of music when Lions' center Dominic Raiola decided he was going to rain on their parade.  Multiple band members report being harassed and heckled by number 51.  Curse words, homosexual slurs, and various other forms of disrespectful name calling was spewed from Raiola's mouth as he and his teammates warmed up for their game.  Obviously this man has serious apologies to offer, and if he's lucky, his mother will only put one bar of soap in his mouth.

Sweet-Tooth Stoners

Medical marijuana, in the form of candy, was confiscated during a drug bust in southwest Missouri.  Barry County Sheriff Mike Epperly said this was the first time he has seen candy laced with THC in his jurisdiction.  Authorities believe the drugs were being shipped in from Colorado to Cassville, Missouri.  Sheriff Epperly warned local parents about this situation possibly interfering with Halloween.  He asks all parents to check labels before their children consume any candy, because the confiscated drugs were in packages with the amount of THC in bold print in plain view.  Medical professionals advice parents to contact poison control if their child has consumed any edible forms of these drugs.  Nausea and abnormal heart rates can be a side affect of young children consuming the marijuana laced candy.  No immediate health risks or reports have been documented yet.

Sacramento Queens have won the heart of The Big Aristotle

It's funny how quickly Shaquille O'Neal will change his mind about various NBA franchises.  From Superman, to The Big Shaqtus, to The Big Shamrock, this poor excuse for a loyal team member once made his mark on six different teams throughout his career.  Now 41, Shaquille has made some impressive moves off of the court.  Achieving multiple degrees and attending more than one university, after he had left a professional sports life, is only the tip of the ice berg.  In his most recent step towards being one of the most well-rounded men in sports history, Shaquille has decided to become a member of the Sacramento Kings Ownership Group.  And let me remind you, these are the same Sacramento Kings who Shaq had beaten up on for years in the western conference, the same Kings that were involved with Vlade Divac, a player who Shaq enjoyed picking on and insulting.  Mr. O'Neal may not have the strongest team spirit, but he sure does love his name on stuff.

Real Life "Project X"?

In Albany, New York, some 400 teenagers allegedly broke into ex-NFL player Brian Holloway's to throw a party.  The partiers are responsible for $20,000 worth of damage, estimated by Holloway.  Twitter was supposedly how word spread about this extravaganza.  Brian Holloway's son was mentioned in a tweet by a random party attender.  Live pictures were being uploaded to Twitter, as the Holloway family, in their Florida home at the time, watched in amazement as the Albany vacation home was ransacked by the revolt of local youth.  Before the Holloway's could call the authorities in the Albany area, a concerned neighbor had done just that.  Teens scattered across the 200 acre property, leaving their beer kegs, liquor bottles, and drug paraphernalia behind.  No arrests have been made at this time, but using images posted to social media, individuals at the party are being identified.

American Flag Burning in South Carolina

Yesterday morning at about 2:00 am, 17 year old Nick Newell was caught on St. James High School's security tapes.  The student was dressed in dark clothes and was wearing a gas mask to hide his identity.  Charred remains of several American flags were found at 6:00 am that same morning but custodians.  The school was locked down and students were not admitted to classes.  An arson investigator and the Horry County bomb squad came to the school, for precautionary reasons only.  Newell was arrested at his home later that afternoon, charged with third-degree arson.  Motives for this unpatriotic act remain unknown.

Eli Erickson--Mummified body found in German attic

After an excursion in North Africa, sometime in the 1950's, it was thought possible that the father of Lutz-Wolfgang Kettler brought back quite the souvenir.  The travelers 10 year old grandson discovered a perfectly preserved mummy in the attic of his grandparent's home.  Local police and forensics experts are baffled at what lays under the 20th century clothes that said mummy was wrapped in.  The 4' 8" skeleton of an unknown gender is covered with a thin layer of an unnamed metal.  Unwrapping of this mummy has yet to happen, taking into consideration of the possible damages that may occur.  Although Andreas Nerlich, of Munich's Bogenhausen hosptial, believes the mummy to be a fake, further investigation will be delayed until proper tests are done to determine the age of the bones.
